How transfer HD program from Cable Box DVR to Hi-Def Camcorder? HDMI? Will HDCP stop that? Analog Hole Only?
First off, I have:
1) HD Atlantic Scientific Exploer 830HDC DVR via Time Warner Cable (sucks eggs… but that’s another story), and
2) Sony HDR-HC3 (love it!)
I want to transfer some recorded DVR programs (best moments of American Idol, etc.) in HD to Hi-Def camcorder via HDMI.
Will HD copy protection prevent this from happening? Is the “analog hole” my only option? I think I can connect the analog to my old Mini-DV camcorder via RCA but I’d rather have HD.
For the record, I hook up the two (HDMI from cable box to camcorder) and I can’t even get the tv output to appear on the display of the camcorder. I searched the Sony menu and I can’t seem to find a “record from HDMI connector” option… it doesn’t seem to exist.
“I can’t seem to find a “record from HDMI connector” option… it doesn’t seem to exist.” You answered your own question. The HC3’s HDMI is out (from the camcorder) only. The only digital connection IN to that camcorder’s HDV engine (and onto the tape) is the DV port – the same way you get HDV off that camcorder. You can get high definition video off that camcorder using HDMI – but again, that is out only.
